Like so many others I am deeply saddened by the death of LaMarr Billups, a former Madison resident who moved to Virginia to take an administrative post at Georgetown University. During his time in Madison, LaMarr was my friend and frequent consultant on matters of community involvement. Through his work with the Madison Urban League, The University of Wisconsin and The 100 Black Men of Madison, LaMarr kept his finger on the pulse of our city and our state. Despite his illustrious background and exceptional leadership abilities, he was comfortable in an advisory role with many of Madison’s best and brightest. I will miss his quiet dignity and extraordinary generosity. I extend my sincere condolences to his family, mentees and numerous friends.
