Journey Mental Health Center (JMHC) has been providing services to the residents of Wisconsin for more than sixty years. We have achieved an international reputation for the cost and clinical effectiveness of our community based service model for individuals with complex mental health problems. We were the first Center in Wisconsin to provide 24/7 professional mobile crisis intervention services and to combine alcohol and other substance abuse services in the same program. We have been acknowledged as a national model for wrap around child/family services, elderly outreach services and jail diversion services for the mentally ill. Over time, we have created a comprehensive behavioral health service net that supports individuals at every stage of life.
Our treatment philosophy is to provide evidenced based services to our consumers/clients in the least restrictive setting in a culturally appropriate and recovery-oriented manner. This philosophy has led to the full integration of our mental health and substance abuse services and the training of all our clinical providers in the core competencies of suicide risk assessment, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. We deliver trauma informed care in recognition that trauma is a major precursor of mental health and substance abuse problems. Recovery is the goal of all treatment because it maximizes our consumers’ internal and external resources and fosters dignity and hope.
We offer mental health and substance abuse services to individuals across their life span. We treat our clients/consumers in settings where they are psychologically comfortable including their homes, neighborhood and senior centers, schools and clubhouses. Our experienced multidisciplinary staff provides psychiatric, social work, rehabilitation, nursing, psychological, and peer support services. We have an in-house pharmacy for the convenience of our clients/consumers. We offer culturally specific services to the Latino, African American and Southeast Asian communities.
We have formal quality improvement processes in all programs monitored by a continuous quality improvement committee. We establish measureable outcomes that are subjected to internal and external review. We are internationally (CARF) and State of Wisconsin certified. Our employees are offered over 200 hours of agency sponsored training annually. We are an official training site for the University of Wisconsin (Psychiatry, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Psychological Rehabilitation and Pharmacy) and Edgewood College (Family Counseling and Nursing).
Journey Mental Health Center has pioneered services such as intensive community support for seriously mentally ill individuals, substance abuse and mental health jail diversion, psychosocial rehabilitation in a clubhouse model, child and adolescent trauma treatment and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment for Southeast Asian refugees. We also work with a variety of organizations to provide community education and consumer advocacy. Our continuing goal is to be in the forefront of efforts to make quality mental health and substance abuse services available to all in our community who need them.
