The PROPS Program (Promoting Recovery from Onset of Psychosis) offers specialized, early intervention services for teens and young adults ages 15–25, who have experienced their first episode psychosis (FEP).

Research shows these symptoms are most responsive to treatment when identified early. An accurate diagnosis and proper treatment plan are critically important in the prevention of - and recovery from - psychotic disorders.

PROPS provides Coordinated Specialty Care mental health treatment and provides an individualized approach to care coordination.

The PROPS team uses the Shared Decision-Making Model where consumers and staff work together to develop a plan of care. Your tailored treatment plan is centered on your goals, dreams and ambitions. Treatment also includes a recovery-oriented and strengths-based approach.

Eligibility for PROPS:

To receive care from the PROPS Program, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Between the ages of 15-25 at the time of referral
  • Resident of Dane County, WI
  • Must have experienced psychotic symptoms for longer than one week but less than three years
  • Must be experiencing psychosis that is not solely related to a medical condition or drug or alcohol use
  • Must be a voluntary and willing participant of the program
  • Insurance eligibility: Medicaid through CCS (learn more about CCS) or commercial insurance through Dean or GHC

Services Provided:

Our PROPS Program Services include:

  • Assessment: A comprehensive mental health assessment helps identify early signs of psychosis and guides individualized treatment planning.
  • Case Management: Case managers coordinate care, connect individuals to community resources, and ensure ongoing support throughout the recovery journey.
  • Medication to Help Reduce Psychotic Symptoms: Medication management and psychiatric evaluations conducted by licensed professionals to help reduce psychotic symptoms.
  • Individual Psychotherapy: Therapists provide one-on-one therapy to explore emotions and help individuals better understand and manage psychosis.
  • Group Psychotherapy: Individuals will meet other young people with psychosis to gain support, understanding, and increased coping strategies.
  • Educational and Vocational Rehabilitation: Support is available to help individuals return to school, explore career options, and build skills for long-term independence.
  • Family Education and Support: We work with family or other support networks to provide education, strengthen communication, and build a stable foundation for recovery.
  • Individual Skill Development: We help in building everyday skills - from managing stress to budgeting or navigating relationships - supporting greater confidence and independence.
