Group Name: Rainbow Recovery
Date/Time: Thursdays at 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Venue: Virtual
Description:
“Rainbow Recovery” is a culturally specific group for consumers at JMHC who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. The facilitators of the group use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered, and Solution-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with the whole-person approach. We continue to work to make this group an open and affirming space for consumers to explore their identities, and ways that minority groups have experienced adversity. As a group, we consider our coping methods and work toward becoming our authentic selves.
The group is a safe space for members to focus on mental health, safety, AODA, health and wellness, identity exploration, community, and other topics as needed. This group is open to adults with mental health and/or substance use concerns. We use an open format, so members can join at any point.
For consumers with AODA concerns, there is a focus on harm-reduction while supporting every individual's goals for recovery.
Group Format:
Each group begins with an icebreaker and check-in question reporting how they are feeling on a scale of 1-10 in that moment. During the check-in, members will state if they would like to “take space” where they will later discuss how their past week was and how they have been feeling. Once everyone has checked in and taken space, the facilitators will move into the activity for that group session. The activity varies each week and is often based in discussions related to LGBTQ+ community. As facilitators, we often ask for feedback on the types of activities group members would like to see for future groups. After the activity there is a brief check out process which once again uses the feelings scale and includes a goal for the week.
