Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program in Madison, WI

Journey Mental Health Center offers comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) services for adults (18+) in Madison and Dane County who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, and unstable relationships. DBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps individuals learn practical skills to improve emotional regulation, tolerate distress, and develop healthier relationships.

It can be used to support people dealing with:

  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Impulsive or self-injurious behavior
  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
  • Intense or unstable relationships
  • Difficulty coping with stress

DBT helps individuals build a life worth living by teaching them how to manage their emotions, handle distress, and interact effectively with others.

Services Provided in the DBT Program:

  • Individual DBT Therapy: Participants meet weekly for 50-minute sessions with a DBT-trained therapist who helps apply DBT skills in real-life situations. Therapy focuses on building motivation, implementing new skills, and reinforcing progress.
  • Group Skills Training: In a structured, 2-hour weekly group

All DBT therapists at Journey participate in regular clinical consultation to ensure treatment is consistent with the DBT model and responsive to each client’s needs.
