Ujima – Culturally Specific Behavioral Health Services

The Ujima Program provides culturally grounded behavioral health services for individuals and families in Madison and Dane County that identify as Black, indigenous, or persons of color. Rooted in community, identity, and resilience, Ujima supports mental health and substance use recovery through a culturally affirming lens that addresses the lasting effects of systemic racism and historical trauma.

Culturally responsive care matters. It recognizes how race, identity, and history impact emotional well-being. For BIPOC communities, trust, representation, and cultural connection are essential in healing. Ujima meets these needs by offering care in a safe, affirming environment led by staff who reflect the communities they serve.

Our Services:

Our Ujima Behavioral Health Services include:

  • Individual Mental Health Therapy: One-on-onetherapy honors each individual’s lived experience, offering a safe space forhealing, growth, and resilience through a culturally-specific lens.
  • Group Therapy: Group sessions create asupportive, empowering space where BIPOC individuals can share experiences,build community, and learn together in a culturally affirming environment.
  • Case Management: Our case managers help individualsnavigate the mental health system, connect with resources, and coordinate careacross providers to ensure consistent, holistic support.
  • PsychiatricServices: Individuals have access to psychiatric evaluation and medicationmanagement, integrated into a care model that respects cultural identity andthe impact of racialized stress and trauma.

Many of our therapists and services have availability to ensure you can access the care you need. We understand that timely support is crucial for your mental health and recovery journey, so we strive to provide prompt appointments and assessments. This approach helps you start treatment quickly and begin working toward your goals as soon as possible.
