Child and Family Mental Health Services in Madison, WI

Journey Mental Health Center provides comprehensive, family-centered care for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. Our services are built on evidence-based practices such as DBT, CBT, play therapy and more - that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and family we serve.

In this program, trained therapists work with young individuals and their caregivers and parents to understand and manage emotions, build coping skills, and address concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral struggles. Families are also supported through parent or caregiver sessions, parenting support, and collaboration with schools and community resources to ensure consistency and care across environments.

In addition to therapy, our Child and Family Mental Health Services may include case management and coordination with psychiatry or peer supports when needed. These services are designed to strengthen family relationships, improve functioning, and support healthy development at every stage.

Our Services:

Our Child and Family Mental Health Services include:

  • Individual Mental Health Assessment and Referral for Children: Thorough assessments help to understand a child’s mental health needs and connect them with the most appropriate services and supports.
  • Individual Mental Health Therapy for Children: One-on-one counseling helps children explore their emotions, develop coping skills, and work through issues like anxiety, depression, and trauma.
  • Group Counseling: In a supportive group setting, children and teens learn skills, build confidence, and connect with peers who share similar experiences and challenges.
  • Family Counseling: Family counseling sessions strengthen relationships, improve communication, and address challenges as a unit - supporting the mental health of both children and caregivers.
  • Case Management: Our case managers help families navigate the mental health system, connect with resources, and coordinate care across providers to ensure consistent, holistic support.
  • Prescriber Services: Our psychiatric providers offer evaluations and, when appropriate, medication management to support a child’s treatment plan and overall mental health.
