Description:

Positive Psychology is a research-backed approach to understanding on what makes life worth living, focusing on positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment.

This workshop will consider some of the common approaches used in Positive Psychology and ways clinicians can incorporate these into their clinical work. Attendees can expect to learn the difference between positive psychology and positive psychotherapy; gain a more thorough understanding of positive psychology approaches; be able to explain some of the pitfalls and limitations practitioners need to be mindful of when using positive psychology; and experience an increase in confidence using positive psychology through exercise demonstrations.

Training Objectives:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate the difference between positive psychology and positive psychotherapy.
  • Summarize a thorough understanding of positive psychology approaches.
  • Identify pitfalls and limitations clinicians need to be mindful of when using positive psychology.

Presenter:

Will Hutter, PsyD, LMFT, is adjunct faculty at Northwestern University, teaching various courses, such as Power, Privilege, and Difference; Family of Origin; Basic Concepts in Family Therapy; Family Therapy with Children and Adolescents; Group Therapy; Internship and Pre-practicum courses; and Systemic Perspectives in Substance Use Disorder. He has his own LLC, FourRivers, where he provides virtual therapy with LGBTQ+ youth and adults, adults experiencing sexual dysfunction, and conflictual queer couples in WI, IL, SC, and ME. He also provides consultation, supervision, and workshops/trainings.
