Training Details:
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria are approved level of care placement criteria, as per the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Chapter 75. This training is designed to provide an introduction to the ASAM Criteria and the ASAM levels of care. Participants will have the opportunity to practice utilizing the ASAM Criteria and level of care placement through case studies and small group discussions.
Training Objectives:
- Identify and describe the six ASAM criteria Assessment Dimensions
- Identify the appropriate patient level of care
- Increase confidence in the use of the tool
Presenter:

James Pearson, LCSW, CSAC, ICS is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin, offering individual therapy for adults. He specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and more, with over 20 years in the behavioral health field. James has worked at non-profits, including Journey Mental Health Center and Addiction Resource Council, providing support for staff and clients in various roles. Currently, James works in private practice and teaches at UW-Madison. James has taught courses on Substance Use Disorders at Edgewood University and UW-Madison. Areas of interest include co-occurring disorders, substance use prevention and treatment, and affirming care of neurodivergent and queer communities. James has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and more.
